To believe is simply this: to be convinced that He alone can give you eternal life. The LORD is not asking you to do anything but to believe Him. He took your sin more than two thousand years ago on the cross, “Who his own self bare our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.” As the Son of God, that did come into the World and finished the course set before Him, by the Father, He alone has the authority to give unto you Eternal Life and that is why He promised it to you. “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, eternal life” 1Jn2:25. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” John 6:47. If He promised you eternal life and He did – then you have what He promised you.
The LORD went to great length to give you strong reason to believe Him, “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie…..” The two immutable things are His Word and His Oath. In Hebrews 6:13, “For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself,” There was none to compare with Him and there is none greater than Him, therefore there was no one to sware by, so He put Himself under oath. Heb 6:17 “Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath:” “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:” It was not necessary for Him to give us two immutable things except we, who have fled to Christ, would have strong consolation or strong encouragement, to know the “hope” set before us is certain.
“Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil;” 6:19. Christ is our hope, our anchor, our forerunner, our salvation and has entered within the veil, “Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.” 6:20 “Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.” Heb. 9:12
He alone can give you eternal life! For He alone is the Son of God that did come into the world as the Son of Man and is the only One qualified to be your Saviour. He finished the course set before Him and died on the cross bearing your sin, as well as the sin of the World, and was raised from the dead by the Father. He alone has the authority to say you have Eternal Life and that is why He promised it to you. “And this is the promise that he hath promised us, eternal life” 1Jn2:25. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. John 6:47. If He promised you eternal life and He did – then if you believe Christ, you have what He promised you, eternal life.”
