Why Did Jesus Say, You Believe in God Believe Aso in Me?
Why did He say that? Answer: Because He is God, and He confirms that again in v 7 and 9. V 10 Jesus is saying the works I do are the works of the Father, Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. In v 11 Jesus is saying if you do not believe me on my personal testimony believe Me because of the work you see done, Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake.
If you stop and think, you quickly conclude that the Bible is written for a record. It is about the Plan of God, the Wisdom of God, the Love and Grace of God, the Incarnation of God {Jesus], the Salvation of God, [ John 20:31, 1 John 5:10, 1 John 5: 20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.], and the Long - Suffering of God, 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance., and the End Time Prophecy of God, Rev 22:16 “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches....” And each of the above-mentioned subjects could not be exhausted by me in a lifetime of preaching.
Then Bible issues this admonition, 2 Timothy 2:15 a very serious admonition to a Preacher or Teacher and applies to the believer. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 1] God observes the individual: Study to shew thyself approved unto God. He knows you and about all your troubles. 2] We should be ashamed if not worshipping and reading the scriptures, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. I encourage you to read the scriptures, just read and do not stop. And I do not recommend buying a study bible. All that can come later much later.
1] Timothy had experienced the new birth, 2Ti_3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Timothy was now a grown man, and he had experienced the Salvation of being born again, John 3:6, That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. “Spirit” is His Spirit - “spirit” is your spirit. Therefore, your spirit is born of His Spirit. And that gives you a Home in Heaven, John 1:12,13. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And that is the Salvation of your Spirit.
2] Timothy was also experiencing the salvation of God in his life, In the context of 2 Timothy Chapter two he is speaking to the person who has been born again, e.g., Vs 10-13. Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 2Ti 2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 2Ti 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 2Ti 2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
He is talking to us the believer about our-accountability to the LORD for our life. We have a future, and He is preparing us for that future. The unbeliever does not have a future. He is living under condemnation, John 3:18, He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
It is important when you read the Bible that you see the difference between the verses about the Gift of Eternal Life and the verses that speak to the save's life. It is true that more verses are written to the believer than to the unbeliever. The book of John is written to tell one how to be saved. But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
I write to you because you believed on Jesus to save you, and Jesus said, I write to you that believe on me so that you may know that ye have eternal life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1John 5:13. Therefore, do you believe His promise of Life is true? Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
There are more verses in the Bible about how to live after beings saved than they are to the unbeliever. To the believer, 1 Peter 2:23-25. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 1Pe 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 1Pe 2:23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1Pe 2:25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
3] The Promise of His Presence with us now and the one who believes in Him can never be separated from Him, Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. Joh 14:2 In my F ather's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
A] Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. Jesus was telling His disciples He is God in human flesh and in doing so is telling us.
He is the one you heard about in your childhood and especially at Christmas time. And He is the One you want your children to know. And during this season we see many manager scenes and I think it is good to have one because of the message it conveys. It is not His beginning but His incarnation, [Luke 1:31, I.e., Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. And just as a side note Mary believe in Him as her Saviour. She said, “I rejoice in God my Saviour”. And where do you find her after the accession? In the upper room, Act 1:14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. She rejoiced in the purpose God had for her, but she never asked for your worship. Often, in the life of Jesus, Mary kept all these things in her and pondered them [thought upon the words spoken].
He came to die [He was born to die] for every person, Heb 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. When on the cross, He cried, My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me, He was tasting death for every person, paying our debt of sin. Why does it say, “taste death for every man”? Because He was not going to stay dead and after three days He arose never to die again. But if you die without believing His promise of eternal life you will die condemned, John 3:18, and eternally separated from God.
He has always been, for He is God, [John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. ]
B] Jesus tells us in John 14:2 why He came. He came to prepare a place for you. The Greek word for “place” is not the same word for mansions. If you read without being preempted by someone's opinion the context, put the mansions as already there at the time of His speaking.
The word for “place” is top’os . Jesus is going back to the third heaven to prepare a place for you. My thoughts are this refers to Revelation 21:1-2, And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
C] The certainty [or assurance] of His promise is sure, Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
The point of emphasis is He is coming back for you. Yes, you may have faced many heartaches and troubles, but nothing separated you from Him. You were never forgotten; He was always for you, [Romans 8:31-39].
Luke 15:4-7 is a powerful story about the sheep that wandered away, i.e., Luk 15:5 And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. Jesus Himself puts the sheep on His shoulders rejoicing. 1 John 2:1- 2, Jesus Himself is our advocate and propitiation, 1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
And He can speak peace into your troubled heart: Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Do you believe His promise of Life is true? Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. The Holy Spirit was drawing you and you believed on Jesus, and Jesus said, I write to you that believe on me so that you may know that ye have eternal life These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 1John 5:13.
