Rom_16:25 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
1Co_2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:
Deu 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.
The word secret is the same word as mystery and of course, Moses was speaking to the Children of Israel in Deu. but it is appropriate for us today.
The word mystery is used seventeen (17) times from Romans to 2 Timothy but there are seven (7) mysteries, I want to mention. And these seven (7) are tenets, beliefs, of our faith. That is the doctrines of the church age and they are never found elsewhere in scriptures except Romans through Philemon.
Seven Mysteries
- The Mystery of His Will, Eph. 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
- The Mystery of Christ, Eph 3:4 Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)
- The Mystery of the Body of Christ, Col. 1:26-27 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Eph 5:32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
- The Mystery of Godliness – I have combined The Mystery of the Faith: ( 1 Timothy 3:9, Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience. If you are holding the faith that means you possess it. We have a salvation whereof you know you are saved.) And the Mystery of Godliness: 1 Timothy 3:14-15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth. And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
- The Mystery of God, Col 2:2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;
- The Blinding of the Nation of Israel, Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.
- The Mystery of the Rapture, 1Co 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
So the mystery, of this age of grace was kept secret by God until the time to be revealed, Ephesians 3:1-12.
3:1, Paul did not belong to anyone else and he had no other message. He was in prison at the time of this writing but you notice he did not say: "I am a prisoner of Rome". How do you view your life? Is it just: Am I making a living? Am I fulfilling my vocation (in other words doing my job)? Or am I serving the Lord Christ, Col_3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. It should be all three (3).
What was the cause? The secret or mystery is now revealed: salvation is by grace through faith and is offered to all people. The love, mercy and grace of God is now offered to all people and not just to the Jews. "For this cause": for all of the doctrine laid out in Eph. 2:1ff (through the end of chapter)..
Paul learned that he was the chosen vessel for this revelation, Acts Act 26:17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, Act 26:18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.
"….Faith that is in me." It is faith in Christ that set you apart. "Faith alone in Christ alone" and that is what makes it by Grace! Rom 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace;….."
What is the Mystery of Christ?
- He is the incarnation of God, Luk 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Joh_1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
- He is the riches of God's grace to us , 1Co 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
- He is Christ in us the hope of glory, Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
- He is the manifestation of God's purpose, 2Ti 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
- He is the forgiveness of our sins, Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Think upon this great truth of God Power and Grace
- He became sin for us, 2Co_5:19-21- e.g. v.21 For he (God) hath made him (Christ)to be sin for us, who(Christ) knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him(Christ). Salvation is by the plan and power and grace of our Great God and Saviour, 2Ti 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, Eph 1:18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, Eph 1:19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Eph 1:20 Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Already done!
- He died for your sin, 1 Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: A work already done by Christ and you are asked to count that word (death, burial, resurrection) as sufficient.
- Everything that is against you/or will be against you has been nailed to His cross, Col_2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; 1 Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: Already finished 2,000 years ago and that gospel message still has power to saved you when believed this day.
- All of these things have already been done for you by Christ; therefore, will you not believe on Him who did it all and be justified by faith? Rom 4:24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Rom 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Justified by faith alone in Christ alone.
- Your daily victory is in your knowledge of Christ appropriated by faith, Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you? Gal 3:2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Gal 3:3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? Gal 3:4 Have ye suffered so many things in vain? if it be yet in vain. Gal 3:14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Col 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: Col 2:7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Col 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Col 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: Col 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: God counted the work of Christ as victory for you.
- 1 Corinthians 1:30 "But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: " God included you in the work of Christ on the cross: He counted your sin to Christ and counted to you the blessing of Christ. "Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:" If the work (the cross) has already been done; and God has said, He will count your faith for righteousness then why not believe Him for eternal life?
Rom 4:23 Now it was not written for his sake (Abraham) alone, that it (faith) was imputed to him; Rom 4:24 But for us also, to whom it (faith) shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Rom 4:25 Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification. Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
