A disciple of Jesus is a worshiper, a servant, and a witness." A disciple of Christ is one who follows Him as in a singular commitment. Christ said to Peter "Follow thou me". Since Christ is the teacher, The Son of God, He gave the prerequisite for being a disciple, So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Luke 14:34.
If our life is to have eternal meaning, if we are to impact the world around us, we must fully embrace Christ. The weight of our life will be determined by the degree in which Christ is believed. Faith comes by hearing God's Word, Rom. 10:17 "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."
As in all the Word of God, there is so much that precedes this account from where we start our reading. It is most difficult to grasp the whole of the story unless all the foundation has been laid. But it is impossible to give the full account/meaning/doctrine of the Birth of Christ in a lifetime let alone one service. So may I encourage you to read the full account of the "Promise of Christ" in your Bible Study.
