Salvation and discipleship are different and are divided out in scripture as such. Misunderstanding and wrong application of these verses keep you from fulfilling your place of service in life. It will keep from growing on to maturity. Also, it will rob you of the joy of your salvation and of blessing in this life. Also, there will be a negative impact at the JSOC. And there are people trying to find Eternal life by discipleship and you do not receive eternal life by discipleship. Eternal life is the Gift of God – It is what you have and Discipleship is what you do. Several years ago, I printed some business cards with my name, Church name, and contact information. On the back, I put: "Salvation is not a prayer you pray and it is not a commitment you make it is a person you believe," "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. John 6:47
Our life is to be lived from eternity's perspective. Php_3:20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Most people are living for the temporal and call it living for the eternal!
Nowhere in the Bible are you taught that you can lose Eternal Life (Born of the Spirit that gives you a home in heaven). The main application of these verses is to believers to seek heavenly things, to live now for the eternal, to value the payment of the reward as Moses did.You see a warning to the unsaved and a warning to the saved. Both are confronted with the proposition: How shall we escape if we neglect so great salvation. In this message, I want to deal with the warning to the unsaved! How will you escape if you neglect "So Great a Salvation"
As we come to this portion of scripture there is a warning given to all people. To the unsaved, the question comes: how shall you escape if you neglect so great salvation and last week's message was concerning this warning to the unsaved. The point being no one will escape their day of accountability. Here is the question all must answer: How will anyone escape if they neglect so great Salvation? If you neglect Christ, to believe in Him for His offer of eternal life, there is no escape: you will meet Him at the GWTJ. If you believe Christ for that which He has offered you, eternal life( "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life" John 6:47), you will meet Him at the JSOC.
The transaction of salvation is made in person: you the sinner and Christ the Saviour – Christ bare your sins in His own body on the tree, (1 Peter 2:24).
The young man claimed to have kept the law. In the legal sense, that might be true; but in the spiritual sense, I don't think it was true. Why would Jesus just cite these five commandments if he was keeping them? Answer: he thought he was keeping them but you know the LORD sees the heart. This man and I am not sure of his age, for Matthew, calls him a young man and young is a relative term. When Mr. Hammon, at 91 addresses me, he says, young man. My point: And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth. For some time, he had observed the commandments. It was not something he had just started.
It is how Christ died for our sins that I want us to meditate thereon, the record of His death as given in the scriptures. "how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;"
10:29, One is to value their redemption, 1 Peter 1:18. Our time here on earth is an opportunity to bring honor and glory to Christ and not to be spent living for self, living for the temporal. If you respect the coming time of accountability, you will redeem your time now and see the eternal and the coming J.S.O.C. - 2 Cor. 5:10.
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Have you believed for eternal life? I did not say Have you worked, have you prayed for it, have you been baptized for it, have you joined the church for it.
Every Church needs people like Epaphroditus. For any church to go forward there must be people like this man. Every minister needs an Epaphroditus. Every work of the LORD must have Epaphroditus. The work of the LORD is done through the church and there must be those who do the work. Paul needed him but was sending him back not because he failed or quit, 2:30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
